As if US-eBayers read my last week’s comment, they all came back quickly from the beach and listed a whole bunch of new cars… With this big effort they nearly broke the alltime record. See stats from numbers.
By the way, maybe last weeks’ independence day caused this listing rollercoster in the US? This would be interesting indeed - In Germany, listings increase on holidays (i.e. Easter or Ascension), in the US they decrease…

India’s online auction history:
1999: Baazee started (with BIG money from Murdoch)
2004: Baazee bought by eBay
2005a: eBay India launched
2005b: Rediff starts Auctions
There’s only one question: Why? Maybe to have fun looking at those early days of the Rediff Feedback System, where obviously professional sellers have -1-ratings, dealing with very professional buyers like Sonia… (click to enlarge picture)

eBay Motors listings in the US have declined rapidly in the last two weeks: 12% monthly loss! This shows again how season-sensible this market is…
31450 passenger vehicles listed on eBay Motors USA today. Since I started eBay Motors Monday, there was no higher value. And Germany? Nothing happened here. Germans just don’t seem to like buying cars on eBay…
Paule und Patrick, zwei Freunde und Menschen, die meiner Meinung nach ansonsten nicht zu den Internetfreaks gehören, haben nun einen eigenes Weblog. Die Welle schwappt also ganz gewaltig rüber nach Old Europe… Willkommen, ihr beiden!

Well, you can’t say there are not trying hard, but still eBay Motors is no success story in Germany. Since I started observing the listings from Motors Germany in February, many things happened. eBay announced a new fee structure, started to allow reserve price-option, tried to market the category aggressively on eBay home and now they did a small relaunch of the category’s websites. But compared with big brother USA, where Motors is the most succesful category, all effort has not much of an impact. There where big jumps in listings since Feb, but in the long run they where all temporarily driven, i.e. by holidays such as easter or ascension. This weeks figures don’t look to bad: 9150 listings online, that means a 32% plus compared with mid of February. But the last months have told us, that real growth is not the trend on eBay Motors. It is more a bouncing from high to low and what is missing is a real development into another dimension of selling cars on eBay…
And by the way, whats the news in telling people “every 3 minutes we sell a car”? They do this since months now. In the US, they are selling 2 cars a minute!
Have you ever asked yourself how a modern web monopolist and former “community hero” is viewed in the eyes of its customers? Observe the eBay image cracking live on this example.
If you don’t have it yet, see what happens if you have it, here…

Google acquired Dodgeball.com yesterday. Its a community service, which is basicly working with SMS. So friends can meet eachother spontaneously. Localized, mobilized webworld is coming nearer…

The downward trend was stopped harshly this week. The reason? Could be because of Benedicts Golf, who went on eBay Motors Germany for more than 180K. But maybe it’s caused by something even higher? Christ himself? Remembering the Easter hype I really think this time it was the Ascension Day, that pushed listings to the highest level since February: More than 12.000 listings online. The former record from Easter is broken… Holidays and long weekends push eBay Motors listings. But somehow this holiday hype seems to be an German thing: US-listings were neither touched by the Ascension nor by the Easter-effects.
