Im Kleingedruckten zu dem bei den iPhone-Tarifen von T-Mobile enthaltenen Datenvolumen überliest man beinahe die folgende Einschränkung: “Die Nutzung von VoIP, Instant Messaging und IPVPN ist nicht Gegenstand des Vertrages”. Wir wollten wissen, was es damit auf sich hat und haben bei T-Mobile nachgefragt, zumal Apple ausdrücklich auf die Möglichkeit von IPVPN mit den im iPhone OS 2.0 neu integrierten Business Tools hinweist und auf dem SDK-Event im März auch ein iPhone-Client für den AOL-Instant Messenger AIM angekündigt wurde (Bild: GIZMODO).

T-Mobile dazu:
“Zur Sicherstellung der hohen Qualität des T-Mobile Netzes sind die Complete Tarife so konzipiert, dass die Anwendungen Surfen im Internet, E-Mail und Datentransfer optimal unterstützt werden. Die Nutzung von VoIP, Peer2Peer und Instant Messaging (mit Anbietern wie zum Beispiel Skype) ist im Leistungsumfang der Complete Tarife nicht enthalten, da die Nutzung dieser Dienste die für diese Tarife vorgesehene Netzkapazität überschreitet und ein mögliches Risiko für das Netz von vornherein vermieden werden soll.”
und weiter:
“IPVPN ist jedoch grundsätzlich möglich, es gibt keine Einschränkungen. Hier wird T-Mobile seinen Geschäftskunden schon bald ein attraktives Produkt anbieten. Die Preise und Leistungen für dieses Produkt werden nicht durch die Complete Preisliste beschrieben, hierzu wird es eine eigene Produkt- und Preisbeschreibung geben. (more&#8230

We saw a good deal of pictures of the new iPhone 3G at WWDC earlier this month, but wouldn’t it be cool to see a side-by-side comparison of the new and old phones? Ask and you shall receive.

It looks like the edges of the phone are a little more streamlined, with only the volume rocker and the headphone jack disturbing its sleek lines. With the headphone jack not being recessed this time around, there is barely even a visible divot there. I want to say that the camera hole is larger, but I’m thinking that it may simply be a trick of the eye.

Wenn man bei den Rosa-Jungs nicht genau aufpasst! Wie kleine Kinder die ihre Brotdosen mit dem nicht aufgegessenem Schulfrühstück jeden Tag an einer anderen Stelle im Zimmer verstecken - macht man sich zur Zeit auch bei T-Mobile eine Spass daraus - die potentiellen Käufer mit wöchentlich wechselnden bzw. überarbeiteten Tarif-Infos zu verunsichern. Eine Hand voll marginaler Änderungen gab es auch in der vergangenen Nacht wieder.

Folgende Neuerungen gilt es zu berücksichtigen

Neues PDF: Eine zusammenfassende Tarif-Übersicht der Complete-Pakete für das iPhone 3G steht nun hier (Tarifdetailsneu.pdf) als PDF zum Download bereit.

Neue Downgrade-Fristen: Bislang war es bei T-Mobile möglich, jederzeit in einen höherwertigen Complete-Tarif zu wechseln. Vor dem Switch in einen billigeren Tarif musste jedoch eine Mindest-Laufzeit von 6 Monaten abgewartet werden. Aus den 6 Monaten sind nun 12 geworden.

Neue Bandbreiten-Drosselung:
Mehr Bandbreite für Complete M Nutzer: Aus folgender Vertrags-Passage der ersten iPhone-Generation

Ab einem Datenvolumen von 200 MB (Complete M), 1 GB (Complete L) oder 5 GB (Complete XL) pro Monat wird die Bandbreite im jeweiligen Monat auf max. 64 kbit/s (Download) und 16 kbit/s (Upload) beschränkt.

Wurde nun diese:

Ab einem Datenvolumen von 300 MB (Complete M), 1 GB (Complete L) oder 5 GB (Complete XL) pro Monat wird die Bandbreite im jeweiligen Monat auf max. 64 kbit/s (Download) und 16 kbit/s (Upload) beschränkt.

1. Generation im Angebot bis zum 30.06 bzw. 30.09
Sah es anfangs noch so aus, als würde T-Mobile sich so schnell wie möglich von den Restbeständen aller Geräte der ersten iPhone-Generation trennen wollen - sieht die neue Regelung nun erstmal den parallelen Verkauf beider Handys vor. Zum Complete S Tarif mit einem iPhone der 1. Generation für einen Euro schreibt T-Mobile etwas kryptisch:

Das Angebot für 1,- € (8GB Version) gilt in Verbindung mit dem Abschluss eines T-Mobile Vertrages in den Complete-Tarifen (Angebot Complete S ist befristet bis 30.09.08) mit einer Mindestvertragslaufzeit von 24 Monaten u. den in der Tabelle genannten Konditionen (siehe Tarife). Bei Abschluss eines Laufzeitvertrages in den Complete Tarifen im Zeitraum vom 17.06. bis 30.06.08 ist das iPhone (8-GB-Vers.) für 1,- € (gilt in allen Complete Tarifen) erhältlich, solange Vorrat reicht.

Facebook has just announced that comments will be added to mini-feed momentarily. Here are the details that Facebook provided me with:

What is changing?
Users will be able to comment on content right in-line within their friends’ Mini-Feed. For instance, rather than having to click through to a friend’s videos that have just been uploaded, users can comment directly from their friend’s profile page.

What made you decide to add comments in Mini-Feed?.
We aim to help users share information and communicate more easily, which sometimes entails having a conversation around a piece of content or an action. We already have comments for photos, videos, and posted items, but we realized there is much more content users want to comment on for example, status messages.

Are you going to be adding comments in News Feed?
We are always iterating on the product and evaluating what will provide the best user experience. We will consider adding comments in News Feed if it makes sense for our users.

Did you model this after other products in the industry?
We are constantly iterating on our product to help users share information and communicate more efficiently. Adding comments in Mini-Feed is functionality we’ve been hoping to implement for some time.

What if people don’t want their comments displayed in other people’s Feeds?
All normal privacy settings apply with commenting on content in Mini-Feed. If you are not friends with the person who owns the content, you cannot comment on it. Also, if a friend comments on something in your Mini-Feed and you want to delete it, you can do so in-line.

How will this change with the new design?
You will still be able to comment on Mini-Feed stories in the new profile design.

How many comments will display under each story?
Under each story there will be up to 8 comments with the option to show more.

What types of stories can be commented on?
Users will be able to comment on their friends’ status messages, uploaded content such as photos, videos or posted items, and stories generated by third party applications. They will also be able to comment on posted items and videos inline, without leaving the profile page.

This new service is a clear move against FriendFeed who has enabled comments on all user activities. While the comments have not been added to the main newsfeed, it’s awesome to see that Facebook is listening to its users. Facebook currently lets users import their activities from 12 sources but they have said that the number of sources will expand in the near future. The only remaining problem that I see is that most of these features are not mobile accessible.

Mobile accessibility is one of the core reasons that people like Robert Scoble are so active on FriendFeed. When people are on the go, they want to communicate with their friends and commenting on mini-feeds is not possible with most phones.

Also doch. Die Info kommt via Apfeltalk (Danke Michael) und zeigt uns nun erstmals ein mögliches Loophole in der von Apple neu aufgesetzten Vertriebsstrategie des iPhone 3G. Das eigentlich geplante Konzept, die Geräte der neuen Generation nur noch gegen den direkt im Laden vorzunehmenden Vertragsabschluss abzugeben, scheint löchrig zu werden. Zumindest in Hongkong. Apfeltalk schreibt:

Dank hervorragender Kontakte in die chinesischen Sonderverwaltungszone Hongkong über Apfeltalker Hofer wurde uns berichtet, dass das iPhone dort ab dem 11. Juli zu einem Preis von umgerechnet 240 Euro auch ohne Vertrag angeboten wird. Verantwortlich ist der auch in Österreich vertretene Anbieter ‘3′ des Mutterkonzerns Hutchison Telecommunications. Wir konnten bislang keine offizielle Bestätigung für diese Information bekommen, sollte das iPhone jedoch dort wirklich zu diesem Preis ohne Folgekosten verkauft werden, so dürfte der iPhone-Schwarzmarktes deutlich wachsen.

Yesterday, Facebook launched the simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese and Russian versions of their site. This is a huge move for Facebook who has been rapidly launching in new languages thanks to their translation tool which crowd sources the job of translating the site. The site has already been translated in to German, Spanish, French, Italian, Norwegian, Polish and Japanese.

Facebook is rapidly on their way to expanding their global dominance as the largest social network in the world. It also appears that Facebook has launched in Portuguese, Suomi, Russian, Cestina and Catala. I’m not aware of what many of these languages even are to be honest but my guess is they are now entering uncharted territory! Facebook must now prove that they have developed the best multi-lingual communications platform.

As Facebook rapidly rolls out new languages, they are clearly becoming one of the most dominant international player in the global battle for social network domination.
